2008 GEORGIA LIMOUSIN ASSOCIATION FIELD DAY
STEER & HEIFER SHOW
July 25-26 * Nichols, GA
Show Rules
- Exhibitor must be a member of the Georgia
Junior Limousin Association by July 1, 2008. Members who have
reached their 22nd birthday on or before January 1, 2008 are
ineligible.
- Registered heifers with 50 percent or greater
Limousin blood calved on or after September 1, 2006, will be
eligible to compete.
- Each Exhibitor may enter up to four heifer
and two steers.
- Steers must be 50 percent or greater Limousin
blood.
- Classes for steers will be broken after all
entries are checked in and weighed. Heifer classes will be
broken by age after all entries are checked in.
- Exhibitor must own, possess, and care for
his/her entries for at least thirty (30) days prior to show
date. Each exhibitor is expected to care for his or her animals
after arriving at the field day site.
- Fitting Rule: ANYONE CAN FIT OR GROOM ANIMAL.
- No powders of any color, false tailheads,
added hair or the addition of any hair like substance will be
allowed to be used in the fitting of either steers or heifers.
Filling of steers or heifers with any substance is prohibited.
Animals must be shown in their natural conformation without
alteration by modification except for grooming and treatment of
the hair and the trimming of the hooves.
- ALL EXHIBITORS are required to show their own
animals. In the case of two entries in the same class or
sickness or injury after arrival at the field day site, a
substitute showman may be permitted. Substitutions must be
approved by the SHOW COMMITTEE before entering the show ring.
- Check-in and weighing will be from 12:00 PM –
1:00 PM on Friday, July 25. The steer and heifer show will begin
approximately one hour after the conclusion of the fun auction
on Saturday, July 26. Show order will be determined at the field
day. Cattle will be released following the conclusion of the
show.
- All cattle must be dehorned. Animals with
unruly dispositions will not be allowed to show for the safety
of other individuals.
- Heifers must be registered in the
EXHIBITIOR’S name by July 1, 2008. Exhibitor must present the
ORIGINAL REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE to the Show committee at
check-in. Photocopies are not acceptable. A class for Lim-flex
heifers will be offered if four or more Lim-Flex heifers are
shown.
- BRED AND OWNED CLASS. This class shall
consist of heifers exhibited in the regular show that were
raised by the exhibitor. In order to show in the Bred and Owned
division, the heifer’s herd prefix must be that of the
exhibitor, and the heifer’s dam must have been owned (based on
NALF records) by the exhibitor at the time the dam was bred to
produce the animal being shown. The family or farm prefix in the
heifer’s ear or the family ownership of the dam at the time the
dam was bred to produce the animal being shown is NOT
ACCEPTABLE.
- SHOWMANSHIP: An exhibitor that has previously
shown a steer or heifer in an individual class may also
participate in the showmanship contest.
- PRE-CLUB CLASS: This class shall consist of
exhibitors, 4th grade (fall 2008 school year) and younger. The
exhibitor will be allowed to have assistance on the halter in
the show ring. The exhibitor will not be eligible for any
premium nor will the call be placed, but each exhibitor will be
awarded a blue ribbon.
- This is a prospect steer show. Entries must
weigh between 450 and 900 lbs. There will be no reweighs once a
steer leaves the scale area. Exhibitors questioning weights
should voice their concern at the time the steer’s weight is
announced.
- Exhibitors will receive $100 per exhibitor.
The exhibitor of the Grand Champion Heifer will receive a $750
scholarship, the exhibitor of the Reserve Grand Champion Heifer,
a $500 scholarship and the exhibitor of the Grand Champion Bred
and Owned Heifer, a $500 scholarship, the exhibitor of the
Reserve Grand Champion Bred and Owned Heifer, a $250
scholarship. The exhibitor of the Grand Champion Steer will
receive a $250 scholarship and the exhibitor of the Reserve
Grand Champion Steer will receive a $150 scholarship.
Scholarships are payable to the college of the Exhibitor’s
choice and must be utilized by his/her 25th birthday.
- All Prize money will be mailed after the
show. Trophies will be awarded at the show.
- STEERS AND HEIFERS must be accompanied by an
INTERSTATE HEALTH CERTIFICATE properly competed by a licensed
veterinarian. Heifers from a certified Brucellosis-free herd or
heifers that have been officially Calf hood Vaccinated for
Brucellosis may not be required to test, but an INTERSTATE
HEALTH CERTIFICATE properly completed by a licensed veterinarian
is still required. Your veterinarian should be able to advise
you on the health requirements for exhibiting cattle in Georgia.
- All exhibitors agree to abide by the show
rules and to all decisions, rule interpretations and conclusions
of the show committee. Anyone failing to comply with the rules
of the show will forfeit any prize money and trophies.
- The entry fee for the show will be one item
suitable for the fun auction per entry. Items may include show
supplies or anything of value that would appeal to exhibitors,
parents or others. A completed and signed entry form must be
used to make entry for this show. THE ENTRY DEADLINE IS JULY 1,
2008.
- The Georgia Limousin Association, nor the
Georgia Junior Limousin Association will not be responsible for
any accident that may occur to animals and/or Exhibitors.
