Georgia Limousin Association Overview
The organizational meeting of the Georgia Limousin
Association was held September 17, 1975 at the Bob Williams Farm in
Covington, Georgia. In attendance were approximately 50 interested
people. Four of those founding member are still currently active
members of the association.
The Georgia Limousin Association strongly supports
the Georgia Junior Limousin Association, the North American Limousin
Foundation and the Limouselles. Five members of the Georgia Limousin
Association have served as a director of the North American Limousin
Association. Four junior members have served as a director of the
North American Limousin Junior Association. And there are five
females from Georgia who are lifetime members of the Limouselles,
and one has served as an officer. In the highly competitive North
American Limousin Queen competition, Georgia has always been well
represented. In 1990, the national banner was brought to Georgia. A
highlight of the Georgia Limousin Association was being host for the
North American Limousin Junior Association Show and Congress and the
All-American Limousin Futurity in 1991.
The directors of the association re-established a
Fall Bull Sale in November 2003. The Limousin-sponsored bull sale
offered a group of quality bulls that were weighed, graded and
scanned for performance data. Plans are in progress for a 2004 bull
sale to be held November 6.
In July, the annual Field Day rotates to various
members' farms or other locations of the state with a junior show,
judging contests and other educational events. The exhibitors are
awarded premiums and scholarships for their participation.
The Georgia Limousin Association directors and
members provide support for the North American Limousin Foundation,
Georgia Cattlemen's Association and the University of Georgia on
various projects, shows and other cattle-related activities.
