Association History
The first field day was held at Deer Acres, Monroe, in 1997. The
next field day was held at Rocking E Limousin, Edison, hosted by the
Arlen Eubanks Family in 1979. The field day has been an annual even
since, with the exception of 1991 when the national show was held in
Georgia. In 1984, at Woodhaven Plantation, a heifer show was added
to the field day activities.
Georgia took charge of organizing the first Regional Junior National
Heifer Show in June 1984 in Nashville, Tennessee. The following
year, it was held at Cane Ridge Farm in Paris, Kentucky, and since
it has been held in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
A club calf show and sale was organized and held in Ashburn in 1998,
1989 and 1990.
The first female sale was held in 1978 at the experiment station in
Tifton, Georgia. The top-selling female was consigned by John
Spivey, CMC, and sold to R.E. Youngblood. Scott Wilson was the sale
manager, and C.K. "Sonny" Booth was the auctioneer.
The first annual graded bull sale was held in Tifton in December
1981 with Scott Wilson managing the sale.
SELBA was organized in 1972 and had its first sale in Ocala,
Florida, in March 1973. Jimmy Tinsley was elected to serve as the
first president, and John Spivey was elected vice president.
In 1991, Georgia hosted the National Junior Show and Congress and
the All American Futurity in Perry, Georgia.
Carroll T. and Patsie Cannon have been the sale manager and
auctioneer for Limousin sales for many years. Carroll had been
involved with the Livestock Breeders Journal prior to working for
the International Limousin Journal in January 1979.
At the 1987 Georgia State Junior Steer Show in Athens, division
winners in the ring being considered for the grand and reserve
champion were all Limousin.
